Keyswitches and FinaleĪ keyswitch is a MIDI note that triggers a different playing technique for a Garritan instrument - for instance, pizzicato on a violin, or harmonics on a harp.
However, if you are exploring Garritan Instruments for Finale or another Garritan instrument library for the first time, you may well be wondering what a keyswitch is, and what it has to do with instrument playback. The following are a list of triggers that can be used to change the playback sound of any GIFF instrument that supports keyswitches. Alternatively, you can invoke a keyswitch manually – see Adding keyswitches as expressions. When using Human Playback, text expressions or Smart Shapes can be added to "trigger" these keyswitches as part of Human Playback’s interpretation. For example, all "KS" string instruments can play in an arco (bowed), pizzicato (plucked), or tremolo (in rapid succession) style. Also, Note-Attached expressions are recommended for keyswitch expressions.Īny instrument with "KS" in its name (as shown in the Score Manager or ARIA Player) includes alternate sounds relating to a particular performance technique for that instrument. Make sure Type is set to None under the Playback tab of the Expression Designer dialog box.
